Guidelines to use the GRE score:

GRE board did not announce the results to public. It has some terms and conditions. Board sent score cards to the only those who are aspirants qualified in the written test to protect the confidentiality of the test takes.

Use Multiple Criteria:

Multiple sources of information should be used to ensure balance the limitation. The sources may include may include undergraduate grade point average, letters of recommendation, personal statement, samples of academic work and professional experience related to proposed graduate study.

Accept Only Official GRE Score Reports

Avoid Decisions Based on Small Score Differences

Small differences in GRE scores should not be used to make distinctions among test takers. SEMs (standard error measurements) vary by Test and are available in this publication

Use the Appropriate % Ranks when Comparing Candidates

Percentile ranks are provided on score card and can be used to compare test takers’ relative performance among the evaluates. Percentile ranks indicate the percent of test takers in a group who Obtained scores below a specified score in the examination.

 The percentile ranks are placed based on previous GRE test takers from a recent three-year back period. Percentile ranks should be compared only if they are based on the same reference population. Percentile ranks are updated annually by the officials.

Subject Test scores should be compared only with other scores on the same Subject Test. If you get 680 marks in the physics it’s not equivalent for chemistry.
